Buying a painting, answered

The things people ask before they buy. If yours is not here, ask me directly.

Are these original paintings?
Yes. Every painting is a one-off, painted by hand in acrylic on canvas. Nothing here is a print or a reproduction. Each one is signed on the front and on the back and comes with a signed certificate of authenticity.
How thick is the paint?
Thick enough to stand proud of the canvas and cast its own shadow. The paint is laid on with a knife rather than brushed, in layers, over weeks. Each painting lists its depth in millimetres alongside its size.
Do the paintings need framing?
No. The edges are painted and the canvas is ready to hang exactly as it arrives. Framing a surface this deep tends to fight it, so most people hang the work unframed.
How much is delivery?
Free delivery in the UK, insured, crated for the size. Worldwide delivery quoted per piece, insured.
Can I return a painting?
Fourteen days to change your mind, from the day it arrives. Return it in the condition it was sent and the full price is refunded. A commission is made to your specification, so it cannot be cancelled once the work has started.
Can I commission a painting?
Yes, and most of the work leaves the studio that way. Send a photograph of the wall and a rough size. There is no charge for the conversation and no obligation after it.
How long does a commission take?
A painting is built in layers and each one has to dry before the next goes on, so it takes as long as it takes, usually several weeks. A date is agreed before any money changes hands.
Can I reserve a painting before it is finished?
A deposit takes the piece off the wall. The balance is settled before it ships. Work that has been announced but not yet released can be reserved the same way.
How do I know what size it is on my wall?
Every painting page draws the canvas to scale against a standard doorway and a person, and there is a tool that puts the painting on a photograph of your own wall at its true size.
Is it safe to pay on the site?
Payment is handled by Stripe. Card details go straight to them and never touch this site. Card, Apple Pay and Google Pay are all accepted.
